Exhibition Wi-Fi & Internet Costs
Connectivity is the cost exhibitors most often assume is free — then discover, on the morning of the show, that the “free” venue Wi-Fi can’t handle a live demo or a card payment. Reliable internet at an exhibition is almost always a paid extra, and it’s worth understanding before you’re on-site with a queue and a spinning loading wheel.
It’s one of the venue costs in our guide to the hidden costs of exhibiting, alongside electricity, and part of the full picture in how much an exhibition stand costs.
Quick answer: free venue Wi-Fi is shared and unreliable. A dedicated internet package or a wired line for your stand typically costs from around £150–£600 for a standard package, and more for high bandwidth or wired connections at large venues.
What You Can
Order — and What It Costs.
Venues typically offer a ladder of connectivity, from free-and-flaky to guaranteed-and-wired. What you need depends on what you’re doing on the stand.
| Option | Indicative Cost | Good For |
|---|---|---|
| Free shared venue Wi-Fi | £0 | Email only — not demos or payments |
| Dedicated Wi-Fi package | £150 – £400 | Guaranteed bandwidth for a few devices |
| Wired connection | £300 – £600+ | Demos, card payments, cloud software |
| High-bandwidth / multi-device | £600 – £2,000+ | Streaming, large teams, heavy AV |
Indicative UK figures, ex. VAT. Large venues price higher — check the exhibitor manual.
Don’t rely on a hotspot. Many venues detect and ask exhibitors to switch off personal mobile hotspots, because dozens of them degrade the hall’s managed network. For anything business-critical, order a proper connection.
How to Get
Connectivity Right.
Match the Package to the Task
Taking payments or running live demos? Order a wired line — reliability matters more than saving £200. Just checking email? A dedicated Wi-Fi package is fine.
Count Your Devices
Tablets, laptops, payment terminals, screens — dedicated packages are often capped by device or bandwidth. Under-ordering means everything crawls at the busiest moment.
Order Early
Like electrics, advance internet orders are cheaper than on-site ones, and wired connections need to be scheduled — don’t leave it to build day.
Have a Backup
Even with a paid connection, a 4G/5G backup for a payment terminal is cheap insurance against the one moment the network hiccups.
